As of writing, there are two types of tax credits available for higher education: American Opportunity Tax Credit and Lifetime Learning Credit. This program will look at the requirements of both, including common issues, and how to calculate them. But tax benefits don't end there--can taxpayers still receive a tax credit for dependency. Education benefits can happen earlier--what happens if a high schooler takes a few summer courses at a community college? What happens if a parent taps into a 529 to pay for university--how does that affect a return? The program will examine these situations.
Tax 101 courses are designed for newer practitioners or those looking to review in preparation for EA or AFSP exams.
